HALLOWEEN

The Celts lived in Western Europe about two thousand years ago. They thought that the spirits of dead people came back to life on October 31st.

The Celts put out food and drinks to welcome the ghosts. They also lit bonfires, danced and dressed in costumes.

As time passed,October 31st became known as Halloween.

The tradition of carving pumpkins into jack-o´-lanterns comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Jack.

Everyone thougth Jack as a mean man. When he died,he was doomes to haunt the Earth forever.

His only light was a hollow turnip with a candle inside.

The Irish carved their own turnip jack-o´-lanterns on Halloween to keep Jack away.

The Irish brought their Halloween traditions to North America where pumpkins were easier to carve.

Playing tricks became part of the Halloween celebration in North A merica.Children went door to door and asked people to give them treats.

Nowadays there are different ways to celebrate Halloween and Halloween parties are very popular all over the world.

This year we decided to celebrate Halloween at school with creepy receipes and a market.

Each classroom prepared a creepy receipes with the teachers help and we also made some Halloween decorations at the Art & Crafts class.

During the morning each class went to the market to see the creepy receipes  and buy and taste a "treat" for 2 Canadian dollars.

We had a great experience!! And practiced a lot of English!!
